Saving food has become something of a tradition in Arrenberg…
With sustainability in mind, we’ve made it our mission to take a stand against food waste!
To that end, we partner with various grocery stores and organizations.
A team of volunteers picks up goods that have been set aside in the stores (expired best-by dates, bruises, torn or soiled packaging, etc.), then inspects and sorts them by usability at “Aufbruch” in Arrenberg. Bags are then packed and, due to the current situation, distributed on Thursdays by appointment to a designated group of pick-up volunteers.
Even though our primary goal is to save food and promote mindful consumption, we are also happy to pass on the rescued goods to those who come to pick them up for financial reasons.
Our group of pick-up recipients is as diverse as Arrenberg itself—ranging from students to retirees, with and without immigrant backgrounds.
Warm regards from the Arrenberg Food Savers
